Patron of: converts, women, penitents, contemplation and against sexual temptation
feast day: July 22
She was no stranger to danger, it is believed she was a prostitute, before her life with Jesus; and is also believed she was the woman caught in adultery that Jesus stopped from being stoned. While that part is uncertain we do know she was possessed by 7 demons. After being exorcised, she traveled with and was a disciple to Jesus. In the Gospel of Luke she was the one to wash Jesus’ feet with her tears and wipe them with her hair. Mary Magdalene is one of the faithful few at the foot of the cross along with John (the beloved), Mary ( Jesus’ mother). She was also the first to encounter Jesus after the resurrection!
The teal color symbolizes the tears she used to wash Jesus' feet and dried them with her hair. And through Jesus she was washed, cleansed and freed of the demons that bound her. The silver color symbolizes her newfound purity. The stone spacers stand for the stones that dropped when Jesus said, “ those without sin cast the first stone, and if they do not condemn you than neither do I.” The wood Our Father beads stand for her presence at the foot of the cross.
Mary of Magdalene who is at the foot of the cross, please pray for us all!
